Julius Meinl
Driving sustainability through partnerships
At Julius Meinl, we are committed to making coffee and tea more sustainable by working hand-in-hand with suppliers, NGOs, farmer organizations, roasters, communities, and governments to drive ongoing positive change.
Our sustainability network
As a member of Austria's respACT platform, we connect with partners across different sectors to exchange insights on sustainable business practices and promote peer learning.
As members of the Global Coffee Platform (GCP), we are committed to a shared vision of building a thriving, sustainable coffee sector for future generations. The GCP’s Coffee Sustainability Reference Code forms the basis of our Responsibly Selected Coffee Initiative.
We are a part of the initiative for coffee&climate, collaborating in public-private partnerships to support smallholder coffee farmers and communities worldwide to adapt to climate change and enhance their livelihoods.
Through partnering with Enveritas, an independent non-profit organisation, our coffee supply chains undergo regular assessments, as we work towards our goal of 100% responsibly selected coffee by the end of 2025.
Our certifications
We partner with Fairtrade as an independent certification body to support safe working conditions, environmental protection and sustainable livelihoods of the farmers in our coffee supply chains.
With Rainforest Alliance as one of our certification partners, we help farmers improve crop yields, build climate resilience and increase efficiency.
The EU and USDA organic certifications highlight the organic farming practices behind our organic products, with strict criteria on pesticide use, fertilisers, and GMOs.
The TÜV Austria-approved label on our range of coffee capsules guarantees they are 100% home compostable.
UN Sustainable Development Goals
At Julius Meinl, we are dedicated to advancing sustainability and contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that align most closely with our operations.
Our focus is on SDG 8, by promoting fair labour practices and supporting sustainable livelihoods for farmers and workers; and on SDGs 12, 13, and 15, by managing our supply chain to promote responsible consumption, reduce our carbon footprint, and protect biodiversity. Central to all our efforts is SDG 17—building strong partnerships—because true progress is something we can only achieve together.
