Julius Meinl
Collaborating for the Future of Coffee
At Julius Meinl, we work to support more resilient coffee and tea supply chains by collaborating with a selected network of partners, including suppliers, NGOs, farmer organisations, roasters, community initiatives and public-sector stakeholders in coffee origin countries. These partnerships are designed to support targeted initiatives that contribute to positive developments in specific areas of the value chain where we are directly engaged, rather than representing full coverage of all supply chain actors or regions.
Our partner network
By joining the UN Global Compact (UNGC) Network, we committed to upholding principles of social responsibility and environmental protection. We adhere to the UNGC’s Ten Principles, focusing on human rights, labour standards, sustainability, and anti-corruption.
As a member of the Global Coffee Platform (GCP), we are committed to the shared vision of building a thriving coffee sector for future generations. The GCP’s Coffee Sustainability Reference Code forms the basis of our Responsibly Selected Coffee Initiative.
We are a part of the initiative for coffee&climate, collaborating in public-private partnerships to support selected smallholder coffee farmers and communities worldwide to adapt to climate change.
Our coffee supply chains undergo regular field assessments by our partner Enveritas, an independent non-profit organisation, to check on improvements made as well as remaining challenges.
Our certifications
For selected products, such as The Originals - Bio Fairtrade line, we partner with Fairtrade, to illustrate our shared commitment between farmers, workers, companies, and consumers. Fairtrade sets standards around economic and social development, as well as environmental sustainability.
For selected products, such as Julius Meinl Big Bag Black and Green Teas, we work with Rainforest Alliance, sourcing from certified farms working toward improved crop yields, enhanced climate resilience, and greater operational efficiency.
The EU and USDA organic certifications highlight the organic farming practices behind our organic products, with strict criteria on pesticide use, fertilisers, and GMOs.
Our coffee capsules are home compostable according to the specifications of the "OK compost HOME" certificate of TÜV Austria.
UN Sustainable Development Goals
At Julius Meinl, we focus our corporate responsibility efforts on contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that align closely with our business operations.
Our strategy prioritizes SDG 8, by establishing internal guidelines for fair labor practices and supporting sustainable livelihood initiatives for farmers and workers. For SDGs 12, 13, and 15, we aim to structure our supply chain to promote responsible consumption and support biodiversity preservation by for example our Responsibly Selected Coffee Initiative. Central to all our corporate efforts is SDG 17—building partnerships—because we believe progress is a shared journey.
